Oh I praise the Name
Oh I praise the Name
Oh I praise! The Name!
Oh I praise the Name
Oh I praise the Name
Oh I praise, the Name of Yah!

The Name, I am
The Maker of the heavens and earth
The Name that saves

With His Name, comes great power
Oh His Name, a fortified tower
Unto esteem of Yah, Messiah is Master!
Now the highest Name, all knees should bow!
Of the highest Name, all tongues make known…
Of the Name that loves!
Of the Name that heals!
Oh the Name that’s patient for us,
Oh is patient for us…
Oh the Name that calls!
The Name that hears!
The Name that counsels us,
Oh He counsels us…

Oh the Name that gives!
And the Name that takes!
Oh He brings the Light of life,
Oh the Light of life!
Oh His Name, our help!
Worthy of our trust!
The desire of our souls,
Desire of our souls
For the sake of His Name… leads on right paths
For the sake of His name… covers over our pasts
For the sake of His Name, He will deliver us,
He’ll deliver us!

Scripture:
“Oh I Praise”
6 Blessed be YHWH,
Psalm 28:6-7
because he has heard the voice of my petitions.
7 Yah is my strength and my shield.
My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped.
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices.
With my song I will thank Him.
You turned my lament into dancing;
Psalm 30:11-12
You removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
12 so that I can sing to You and not be silent.
Lord my God [YHWH my Elohim], I will praise You forever.
1 I will praise the Lord with my [b]whole heart: I will speak of all thy marvelous works. 2 I will be glad, and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy Name, O most High.
Psalm 9:1-2
21 and said:

and naked I will depart.[a]
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”
I will [a]extol You, my God, O King;
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is [b]unsearchable.4 One generation shall praise Your works to another,

Though You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me.
2 Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;

He also has become my salvation.’ ”3 Therefore with joy you will draw water
From the wells of salvation.4 And in that day you will say:
“Praise the Lord, call upon His name;

For He has done excellent things;
This is known in all the earth.

“Unto esteem of El, Messiah is Master”
5For, let this mind be in you which was also in Messiah
Philippians 2:9-10 (The Scriptures),6who, being in the form of Elohim, did not regard equality with Elohim a matter to be grasped,7but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, and came to be in the likeness ofmen.8And having been found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, death even of a stake.9Elohim, therefore, has highly exalted Him and given Him the Namec which is above every name,10that at the Name of
every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,11and every tongue should confess that
Messiah is Master, to the esteem of Elohim the Father.
“His Name, our help” and “The Maker of the heavens and earth”
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Psalm 124:8
the maker of heaven and earth.
God Yahweh [Elohim YHWH],
he who created the heavens and stretched them out,
he who spread out the earth and that which comes out of it,
he who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk in it, says:
6 “I, Yahweh, have called you in righteousness.
I will hold your hand.
I will keep you,
and make you a covenant for the people,
as a light for the nations,
7 to open the blind eyes,
to bring the prisoners out of the dungeon,
and those who sit in darkness out of the prison.8 “I am Yahweh [YHWH].
Isaiah 42:1-8
That is my name.
I will not give my glory to another,
nor my praise to engraved images.
“For the sake of His Name..”
3 He renews my life;
Psalm 23:3
He leads me along the right paths[a]
for His name’s sake.
8Do not remember against us the crookednesses of the fathers! Let Your compassion speedily meet us, For we have been greatly weakened. 9Help us, O Elohim of our deliverance, For the sake of the esteem of Your Name. And deliver us, and cover over our sins, For Your Name’s sake!
Psalm 79:9-13 (The Scriptures)

But we will remember the name of the Lord our God [YHWH our Elohim].
Yah is my strength and my shield.
Psalm 28:7a
My heart has trusted in Him, and I am helped.
“His Name, a fortified tower”
The name of the Lord is a strong tower;

The righteous run to it and are [e]safe.
“His Name, the desire of our souls”
Yes, Lord, in the path of your judgments we wait;[o]
Isaiah 26:8
your name and your Law[p] are the[q] soul’s [being’s] desire.
“He brings the Light of Life”
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
John 3:16-21
1 In the beginning was the Word,[a]
John 1:1-5
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 All things were created through Him,
and apart from Him not one thing was created
that has been created.
4 Life was in Him,[b]
and that life was the light of men.
5 That light shines in the darkness,
yet the darkness did not overcome[c] it.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105
Song Story:
Once again, another instance where Yah shows His care and faithfulness:
I was feeling down in the dumps one Sabbath (what do ya know right? haha). I was planning on worshiping and praising YHWH most of the day, but it was more difficult of course this time. I also like to spend time at my piano and try to sing out whatever I recently read/learned in Scripture, but it seemed my mind was holding me back.
I have a lot of weaknesses, especially when it comes to the mind. I should know in these moments that I can overcome thoughts of doubt, double-mindedness, disapproval toward myself, and more- but I fail and decide to give in almost every time. On the contrary though, PRAISE YAH because His strength really shows in our times of weakness and shortcomings.
I cried out to Him, and I mainly apologized because I didn’t want to feel the way I was feeling and rather be rejoicing.
He heard my prayer and put a melody in my mouth.
I was singing this tune over and over in my head until I realized it wasn’t something I’ve heard before.
How gracious He is! This encouraged me beyond what I could ever imagine to skip to the piano and find the chords to this song, “The Name“.

You turned my lament into dancing;
You removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
12 so that I can sing to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise You forever.
- Grace– getting what you don’t deserve
- Example: receiving a gift (or something you didn’t work for to earn, was free); receiving the gift of salvation
- Mercy– not getting what you deserve
- Example: someone taking a bullet for you; Messiah paying the penalty for our sins
I mentioned this small, but memorable instance on my recent post “My Testimony”, and you can read more about it below. 🙂
Another thought on Praising…
Was this battle in my mind spiritual warfare? Did Yah give me this encouraging melody to use praise as a weapon against these feelings I was facing?
Only He knows!
There is an awesome story of King Jehoshaphat’s answer from Yah after going into battle with musical praise at the frontline:
War against Eastern Enemies
20 After this, the Moabites and Ammonites, together with some of the Meunites,[a] came to fight against Jehoshaphat. 2 People came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast number from beyond the Dead Sea and from Edom[b] has come to fight against you; they are already in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, En-gedi). 3 Jehoshaphat was afraid, and he resolved to seek the Lord. Then he proclaimed a fast for all Judah, 4 who gathered to seek the Lord. They even came from all the cities of Judah to seek Him.
Jehoshaphat’s Prayer
5 Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the Lord’s temple before the new courtyard. 6 He said:
Yahweh [YHWH], the God [Elohim] of our ancestors, are You not the God who is in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You. 7 Are You not our God who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and who gave it forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend? 8 They have lived in the land and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name and have said, 9 “If disaster comes on us—sword or judgment, pestilence or famine—we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your name is in this temple. We will cry out to You because of our distress, and You will hear and deliver.”
10 Now here are the Ammonites, Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir. You did not let Israel invade them when Israel came out of the land of Egypt, but Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them. 11 Look how they repay us by coming to drive us out of Your possession that You gave us as an inheritance. 12 Our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this vast number that comes to fight against us. We do not know what to do, but we look to You.[c]
God’s Answer
13 All Judah was standing before the Lord with their infants, their wives, and their children. 14 In the middle of the congregation, the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel (son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite from Asaph’s descendants), 15 and he said, “Listen carefully, all Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat. This is what the Lord says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast number, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow, go down against them. You will see them coming up the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley facing the Wilderness of Jeruel. 17 You do not have to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. He is with you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Tomorrow, go out to face them, for Yahweh [YHWH] is with you.’”
18 Then Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the Lord to worship Him. 19 Then the Levites from the sons of the Kohathites and the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel shouting with a loud voice.
Victory and Plunder
20 In the morning they got up early and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa. As they were about to go out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in Yahweh your God, and you will be established; believe in His prophets, and you will succeed.” 21 Then he consulted with the people and appointed some to sing for the Lord and some to praise the splendor of His holiness. When they went out in front of the armed forces, they kept singing:[d]
Give thanks to the Lord,
for His faithful love endures forever.22 The moment they began their shouts and praises, the Lord set an ambush against the Ammonites, Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir who came to fight against Judah, and they were defeated. 23 The Ammonites and Moabites turned against the inhabitants of Mount Seir and completely annihilated them. When they had finished with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped destroy each other.
24 When Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the large army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; nobody had escaped. 25 Then Jehoshaphat and his people went to gather the plunder. They found among them[e] an abundance of goods on the bodies[f] and valuable items. So they stripped them until nobody could carry any more. They were gathering the plunder for three days because there was so much. 26 They assembled in the Valley of Beracah[g] on the fourth day, for there they praised the Lord. Therefore, that place is still called the Valley of Beracah today.
27 Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem turned back with Jehoshaphat their leader, returning joyfully to Jerusalem, for the Lord enabled them to rejoice over their enemies. 28 So they came into Jerusalem to the Lord’s temple with harps, lyres, and trumpets.
29 The terror of God was on all the kingdoms of the lands when they heard that Yahweh had fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 Then Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was quiet, for his God gave him rest on every side.
2 Chronicles 20
Praising Him back with this simple, yet powerful melody I received, surely helped me out of the pit I felt stuck in. He once again reached down and pulled me out, though I did not deserve it.
The care He has… it astonishes me.
Let us PRAISE HIM!! HalleluYah!
