Shavu’Ot
THE BASICS
Have His Word handy? Let’s study together!

Leviticus 23:15-22
- Count 7 WEEKS beginning from the day of First Fruits (“sheaf of the wave offering”) and that NEXT DAY is SHAVUOT/PENTECOST/FEAST OF WEEKS.
- 7 weeks/49 days + 1 day= 50 days of counting total (“pente” = 50/ fifty)
- Always lands on the 1st day of the week (Sundays) and creates a double Sabbath (back-to-back Sabbath/rest days).
- Centered around the second harvest of the year, which is the WHEAT HARVEST. (*Passover is around the time of the first harvest of the year, which is the barley harvest.)
- Bring TWO LEAVENED LOAVES of bread as a wave offering to YHWH, giving thanks to Him for His provision/abundance.
- This is your first fruits to Him, which are the very first crops one harvests and are the best of the best!
- Hold a HOLY CONVOCATION/GATHERING OF PEOPLE to observe/celebrate with.
- Do all you can to find like-minded believers because it is such a blessing!
- REMEMBER THE POOR, consider their needs especially at this time.
- Remember them by giving! (Necessities, prayer, time, etc.)
Deuteronomy 16:9-12
- Also known as the “FEAST OF WEEKS“
- Commanded to REJOICE before Elohim! 馃檪
- REMEMBER WHERE YOU CAME FROM; what He rescued you from.
- YHWH says to remember that you (Israelites and grafted in Israelites) were once a slave in Egypt and that He is your Elohim who brought you out of the land of slavery.
NEW LEAVEN

Matthew 16:5-12
- Leaven– teaching; doctrine (can mean good OR bad doctrine)
- Jesus/Yahushua compared the bad, man-made teachings of the Pharisees in his day to leaven.
- Leaven is also compared with good, sound doctrine.
- “The reign of the heavens is like leaven,” Yahushua said in the 13th chapter of Matthew, as He was speaking in parables to the crowds (Matt. 13:33).
Exodus 12:19-20
- Ridding of the old leaven during the observance of Passover and making unleavened bread (this feast is prior to Pentecost).
- This makes a great time before Pentecost, to really sit and seek The Father about your beliefs, walk, traditions, etcetera to be more aware of anything you may be doing that is out of the will of Him. Our ultimate goal is to please Him, right? He has done so much for us.
Leviticus 23:17
- Bringing in the new leaven!
- Now that the old leaven has gone, room has been made for the new! This is a great time to fill yourself with His Word and His Word only, and to seek Him on His good doctrine/leaven. Renew your mind by replacing the old ways of thinking with new ways of thinking that are aligned with YHWH’s Word (Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Ephesians 5:26; Psalm 119:11).
1 Corinthians 5:5-7
- Leaven is likened to sin in this case of Paul telling the believers in Corinth to stop sinning and be cleansed from it and rid it out of their lives.
- …Reiterating the ridding of bad doctrine for good, or old leaven for new, or a sinful way of living for a righteous way.
Galatians 5:9
- What is the importance of the subject of leaven?
- The Word expresses that a little leaven leavens the whole loaf, meaning (in my own words) that just the smallest right or wrong teaching one has, it can have a big effect in the way he/she believes and acts… AND spreads to others! So whether that small piece of information is right or wrong, we all need to be careful in how we receive it, and test it against The Word/seek Him in prayer. Let no one deceive you! Deception is everywhere and one can realize it the more they soak themselves in His Word.
- As of sin, a little of it affects the entirety of one’s life, and of the ones around him/her as well. Give it to Him, friends, and forsake any sins you know of! I can personally testify that He provides a way of escape in temptation/trial, so that we are able to endure (1 Corinthians 10:13). Halleluyah!

TRUTH & SPIRIT GIVEN

On Pentecost, YHWH gave us His LAW… His loving instructions.
Exodus 19-20
- Elohim met Moses on Mount Sinai with fire and smoke, as He gave them His instructions to abide by, for their own good.
Love YHWH | Love Others |
No idols/no other Elohim | Honor your parents |
No graven images | Don’t murder |
Don’t take His Name in vain | Don’t commit adultery |
Keep Sabbath day holy/set-apart | Don’t steal |
Don’t bear false witness | |
Don’t covet |
Ezekiel 36:25-27; Hebrews 10:16; Jeremiah 31:33
- Remember the Covenant! Elohim promises to the house of Yisrael that He will put His Law in their minds and write them on their hearts, so they can DO them. Speaking of doing them- He sent a Helper for this! Praise Him alone!

On Pentecost, YHWH gave us His SPIRIT… our Helper.
Acts 2
- Elohim gave His Spirit freely with a sound like a mighty, rushing wind and caused the disciples to be filled and see tongues, as of fire.
- This miracle of tongues, was one out of many (Acts 2:43) the disciples were able to witness due to YHWH’s free giving of His Spirit.

- Many REPENTED and were BAPTIZED this day in the Name of Yahushua/Yeshua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:37-41)! Once they did so, it says in verse 38, that they should receive the gift of the Holy, Set-apart Spirit of Elohim.
- There is also an account where Yahushua/Yeshua had the Holy Spirit descend and remain on Him after He was baptized/water immersed by John the baptist (Luke 3:21-22; John 1:30-33).

WAYS TO CELEBRATE
- Get together and have a meal!
- Can bring two loaves of leavened bread, enjoy fresh fruit, herbs, and vegetables, etc… Anything you can enjoy from the recent harvest or what has been freshly provided for you at the store!
- This past Shavuot, I waved the two loaves of bread I was able to bake, as well as, any fresh herbs I was blessed with in my tiny garden this year 馃檪 …For we can sow the seed and water it, but it is He who brings the increase (1 Corinthians 3:7)! This was a resemblance of what the priests did in Leviticus with the offerings they were given. (I sure felt silly doing this because I am still new to observing YHWH’s appointed times, but what a joy it was! It put a smile on my face to do so and to remember that we are not our own provider… and thank YHWH we aren’t!)
