Lyrics:
Oh, how we can hold on to the world so tight
When it only lasts a time…
O forgive us Yah (x2)!
Remind us of the Spirit You’ve placed inside
It moves us to follow Your Light…
O forgive us Yah (x2)!
Let us lay down
any idols

Let us not be
so prideful
Let us know You have
died to buy…
us a life.

Just to find a relief to calm my flesh
When it’s the soul that longs for that…
O forgive us Yah (x2)!
Let us put our delight in You Most High
Then You’ll give what is desired…
O forgive us Yah (x2)!
Because You alone will satisfy my soul
Therefore it’s not too hard to let go
Of all these worthless things that take up my mind
You provide escape from temptation
Therefore I am able to endure
Because an El of deliverance You are!
Oh what an El of deliverance we serve!!

Some Personal Thoughts…
Idols- what are they? What can they be?
In my own words and from my own understanding at this time, I believe idols can be ANYTHING/ANYONE PUT BEFORE YHWH -meaning- the given priority in our actions, in our thoughts, in our daily hopes, what we talk about, and how we live. Idols can be (in my own words still) THE THINGS WE DEPEND ON TO GET THROUGH EACH DAY.
Some questions I ask myself:
- Do I depend on my pets and a cup of coffee to give me joy and peace of mind every day, or do I depend on time in prayer and transferring my worries to Him? (He cares for us and what we worry about/our burdens)
- Do I look forward to indulging in sweets (or any physical substance really) more than I look forward to worshiping My Creator?
- Do I desire a clean and tidy home more than I desire a clean and tidy heart, mind, and soul?
- Do I trust in material items to fulfill my needs or do I place my trust in YHWH?
- Do I define my worth by a finished checklist or do I define my worth by what He has done?
- What/who has consumed my mind this week? (I’m usually guilty of entertaining my mind with the future, the next thing I think I need to buy, or when the perfect time is to make a cup of coffee- lol).
- Am I thanking the sun for the beauty and warmth or am I thanking the One who created it?
- Am I hoping to please my family/friends/etc. in how I live/worship YHWH or am I hoping to please YHWH in my worship?
- What items in my home seem fine to me, but maybe not to Him?
On Another Note…
This song came about from my own convictions, as well as, what I notice about the people around me too. How we depend so strongly on things the world can (temporarily) provide us daily and aren’t necessarily necessary; we want to follow what our bodies want- to just make our flesh shut up, which usually only takes a “quick fix”. What if we didn’t feel the need to lean on these things as strongly as we do?
I ultimately feel sadness towards this. Our never-ending pursuits to make our flesh happy and it’s all just temporary. Yes, the world is full of hardship and daily life seems it should have more to it, but it does- spiritually speaking. When our minds are set on Him and what He has for believers in the coming City (eternity, peace, order, inheritance, no depending on fleshly desires to be met…freedom!), it can really shift our focus and understanding on how important it is to try our very best and to make YHWH our praise and dependence each day.
The Most High cares for us and wants us to lean only on Him in this world… though it seems impossible with all the things surrounding us that we can reach for instead. I think He wants us to realize that He truly is everything we need…in this life and after.
I pray you find strength in Him today, for freedom (from these worldly, temporary struggles) comes ultimately from Him, the Almighty, and Father because He has overcome it. Keep the faith, watch your mind, and seek the help from His Spirit that cleanses us and guides us along the right path.
We are to endure until the end when He, our coming King, returns.
…but why?
Will those who have given up, have addictions or idols not be saved?
…I don’t know. That’s His decision.
Endurance is encouraged and mentioned in His Word often. It must be important.
My friends, let us be found sober-minded, full of faith in His Son and of His righteousness when He comes.
