We all make our bed in darkness
And there we lay our head
But here we live our lives also
And pretend we’re not dead
Two thousand years
Between ours and the Light’s
A glimmer of hope
seems nothing but a lie
By this standard it’s sure
The man who tells
of a greater Light
Is nothing short of losing his mind
My dear friend, I know the darkness well
I’ve passed you by at the bottom of the pit
Chanting along
“This is just the way it is”
Please hear
I don’t want to speak too loud
I know this fable is banned
— but I’ve found The Way out
I know your eyes have adjusted
And you see just fine
But the darkness is blinding
Please don’t be deceived- there is a Light.
About the Poem
Awake O’ Sleeper suggests a world where there is never any light (always darkness) and no one believes light exists anymore.
Let us wake up to see the Greater Light!
12 Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12
